Youth Media Lead

The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA)Full-time Fixed term 12-13 month contract (negotiable) parental leave backfill Nov 2021 - Nov 2022.Salary $95,000 excluding superannuationLocated in Melbourne - (virtual/hybrid arrangements considered)Applications close Thursday 2nd September, 6pm AESTAbout the role FYA is looking for an experienced media professional to join our team as Youth Media Lead on a 12-month contract basis. The Youth Media Lead drives and delivers a strategic program to elevate the voices of young people to share their lived expertise on the issues that matter to them.Working as part of FYA’s Advocacy and Campaigns team, in this role you’ll work to build a large network of youth talent, train and prepare young people for broadcast opportunities, and pitch them to journalists and producers. You’ll also support youth-led movements to leverage moments to strengthen their advocacy in the media, and provide coaching for young  people with a sudden profile off the back of a news event. Please see attached position description for more details regarding core responsibilities for the role. About youAt least 4-6 years experience in the media industry in journalism, public relations, or media relations in a non-profit, industry body or political office. This should include extensive hands on experience:Pitching stories and packages to the mediaTraining and/or preparing talent for broadcast media interviewsWriting and pitching op-edsRapid response and crisis communicationsStrong experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and communities, including a demonstrated commitment to self-determination, decolonisation and First Nations justice.Demonstrated experience working to empower the voices of people with lived experience in the mainstream media, preferably young people. Experience navigating the specific barriers people of colour and/or people with a disability face in representation is particularly valued.Passion for social change demonstrated  through professional or voluntary involvement with non-profit causes.About usAt the Foundation for Young Australians, our vision is that young people have the power to beat injustice and transform the future.
