This employment opportunity is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peopleAbout the roleAs the Director of First Nations, you will lead FYA’s work to build the power of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to beat injustice and transform the future. Reporting to the Executive Director of Capacity Building this will include identifying opportunities to build the capacity of First Nations youth-led organisations, coaching young First Nations advocates, designing large scale First Nations youth engagement projects, and supporting our YLab consulting business in delivering co-design projects with young First Nations people. Core ResponsibilitiesRelationship building. Deeply engage with young First Nations people, Aboriginal controlled organisations, elders and other community members, to build relationships, understand issues and priorities, and set collective strategy.Strategy and thought-leadership. Develop and deliver a dedicated strategy to build the capacity of First Nations youth-led organisations.Capacity building. Work closely with FYA colleagues to ensure strong First Nations engagement with our grant-making, training and other capacity-building programs, including:- direct marketing and promotion to first nations youth- design of targeted materials and communications- participation in selection processes- recruitment of First Nations mentors and consultants- participation in events, and delivery of training.Principal relationship manager - Acting as a first (and if required, ongoing) point of contact and strategic decision-maker for First Nations young people with FYAAdvocacy - Working closely with the Executive Director of Advocacy, to shape and deliver an advocacy plan for First Nations youth issues.Strategic Projects - Advising on the development of both dedicated First Nations-focussed projects, as well as the cultural safety and design of other FYA programs.YLab - Identifying opportunities for young First Nations people to become YLab Associates and/or First Nations organisations to benefit from YLab’s First Nations practice.About You It is expected that candidates for this role will have many, if not all of these experiences and skills:At least 7-8 years experience in the non-profit sector driving strategic projects to achieve systems change or build the voice of community members, especially young people.Extensive relationships with First Nations organisations and young people.Demonstrated hands-on expertise and experience in delivering a diverse range of advocacy or community engagement tactics, such as organising and leadership development, decision-maker engagement, digital campaigning, art or media projects etc.Demonstrated success with fundraising, including major donations/grants.Superior communications skills, including ability to craft compelling and concise written communications as well as presentation skills.About the Foundation for Young AustraliansAt the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA), our vision is that young people have the power to beat injustice and transform the future.
